Please read the following information on this condition:<\/p>\n

CHICKEN POX (Varicella Xoster Virus)<\/p>\n
Australia<\/p>\n
A common, highly contagious, acute viral infection of the skin. Symptoms include itchy pustules and scabs.<\/p>\n
Transmission: Chicken pox is acquired by inhaling virus-containing particles in tiny droplets released into the air from the nose and throat of an infected person.<\/p>\n
Incubation period: Between 7-23 days.<\/p>\n
Infectious period: Usually prior to a rash appearing which makes it difficult to diagnose prior to symptoms appearing. Scabs may remain infectious if they lift off the skin.<\/p>\n
Exclusion: Exclude until day after all pustules have scabbed over.<\/p>\n
Treatment: Treatment is to minimize fever and discomfort by cool bathing in Pinetarsol to help reduce itching and covering lesions in calamine lotion.<\/p>\n
Please do not send your child to swimming until after the pustules have scabbed over.<\/p>\n
