We are deeply disappointed that we have not been able to open the 50m pool as planned. We appreciate that the delays are causing frustration and concern for our swimmers.
As advised previously, there were issues with structural elements of the 50m pool, making it necessary to empty the pool to allow for safe investigation.
Some of the metal bracings supporting the underside of the pool were found to be in urgent need of repair, and work is currently underway to rectify this.
While the bracings are replaced, the rigid structure of the pool is compromised, so it must remain empty to ensure the safety of our contractors and staff who are undertaking this work.
Once complete we will require sign off from structural engineers to advise if we can safely refill the pool and resume swimming.
In the same area, there is also work required to repair the concrete slab beneath the pool. Again, we are receiving advice from structural engineers to determine the full extent of the work required.
We are expecting to receive further information within the next two weeks, at which time we will be able to make an informed decision about the best way to progress and potential timeframes for re-opening the pool.
As the safety of our customers, staff and all visitors to HBF Arena is always our highest priority, we cannot re-open the pool without receiving sufficient safety clearance.
We will continue to keep you informed through our website and Facebook page.
Thank you for your ongoing understanding and patience, we are as disappointed as you that we cannot welcome our swimmers back to HBF Arena just yet.

As part of our ongoing reinvestment in facilities, the 50m pool was closed to allow works to be carried out on the aquatic centre roof and some additional maintenance.
Unfortunately, we have encountered issues with the structural elements of the pool and further work to ascertain the full extent of these issues and the necessary repairs has now begun.
We are deeply disappointed that we will not be re-opening the pool to you as planned, but it would not been safe to do so.
We recognise that this will cause inconvenience to our squads, members, aqua card holders and the general northern suburbs community.
Gym members – if you are a regular swimmer, please speak to our Membership team to discuss your options.
Aquacard holders – the expiry dates on aquacards will be extended to ensure your swims remain valid.
Pool bookings – if you regularly book the 50m pool our Bookings team will contact you directly to discuss options.
We will update you when further information is available to us. Please check our website and Facebook page for the latest details.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
